QUAGGA MUSSELS -- The recent discovery of quagga mussels in San Diego County reservoirs has water resource managers scrambling to prevent the costly havoc that quagga and zebra mussels have wreaked in the Great Lakes. A UC Davis expert on invasive species in saltwater and freshwater says this threat could have been avoided -- if the responsible state agencies had heeded repeated warnings throughout the past decade. MEDFLIES -- UC Davis has faculty experts who can provide background and comment on the Mediterranean fruit fly, or Medfly, which was recently discovered in the town of Dixon, just west of Sacramento. See details at: http://www.news.ucdavis.edu/search/news_detail.lasso?id=8346.
