Oct. 16 and 17 -- UC Davis wildlife-health expert and veterinarian Walter Boyce will discuss the impact of last fall's Cedar Fire in San Diego County on mountain lions at a one-year anniversary symposium. The conference is sponsored by the Anza-Borrego Institute and California State Parks. It will take place in an unburned "island" of land in the heart of the Cedar Fire burn area -- Cuyamaca Outdoor Camp in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. The two-day symposium will offer a broad overview of the ecological effects of the Oct. 29, 2003, fire and an update on recovery efforts. Walter Boyce's talk is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16. The title is "The Impact of the Cedar Fire on Individual Mountain Lions, the Cuyamaca Lion Population, and Expectations in the Short and Long-Term Future."
