Media Calendar: Jared Diamond to Speak at International Symposium

Sept. 14-18, Sunday through Thursday -- Agricultural biodiversity -- making use of and conserving a variety of plant and animal species in commercially viable agricultural operations -- is the focus of an international symposium at UC Davis. Keynote speakers will be evolutionary biologist and author Jared Diamond and ecologist Gary Nabhan, a pioneer in the local food movement. Tours will be offered to agricultural sites near Davis and elsewhere in Northern California. The event is open to the public, with preregistration required. The symposium is the successor to a program held 11 years in Aleppo, Syria, which was dedicated to the late Jack R. Harlan, one of the leading scientists in the field of crop evolution.
