Media Availability: UC Davis Professor Survives Singapore Air Crash

He had planned to return to Sacramento International Airport Tuesday night. Instead, he was injured in the crash of Singapore Airlines Flight SQ006 as it took off from Chiang Kai-shek International Airport in Taipei, Taiwan. The airline said today that 79 of the 179 people aboard were killed and 99 had been treated for injuries. One passenger was still missing. Rice, 47, is a professor of agronomy and range science. He joined the UC Davis faculty in 1986 after completing his doctorate here in 1984. His research specialty is restoration ecology; he studies native species in efforts to restore disturbed lands and damaged ecosystems. Directions and Parking: Wickson Hall is located in the northeast corner of the UC Davis campus, opposite Freeborn Hall. From I-80, take Highway 113 North. Exit at Russell Boulevard, travel about one mile, turn right onto Howard Way. Proceed through the security gate to the T intersection. Turn right, then immediately left. Wickson Hall is on your right. Park along the west curb. Avoid illegal parking zones. Those in unmarked vehicles should place a business card on the dashboard.
