Valerie Lucus, who has extensive experience managing emergency preparedness for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and for the Marin County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services, started this week as the campus's emergency manager.

In her new role, Lucus is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the campus's comprehensive emergency management program. She will work closely with the campus's Emergency Management Group, campus safety coordinators and emergency officials throughout the region. Lucus most recently worked for the Berkeley National lab where she served since 2001 as emergency preparedness manager. At Davis, she succeeds Ev Profita, who retired in March. Though Lucus' position was housed previously in the police department, it is now in the Office of Administration.
