Library offers summer classes for biological and agricultural researchers

Shields Library will hold the following research classes this summer:

• Cool Library Tools for BioAg Laboratory Staff—Learn about the following key resources available for lab staff, including major life science methods, quick tips on how to search PubMed and other publications, and journal impact information to help determine which ones are best to publish in. Noon-1 p.m. Aug. 17, and Sept. 1 and 8.

Searching the Animal Sciences/Wildlife Biology Literature—This class will cover bibliographic databases and library resources on subject guides, including those on the animal sciences, entomology, fisheries and aquaculture, and marine miology. If pertinent, the new EBSCO interface to the databases Fish and Fisheries Worldwide and Wildlife and Ecology Studies Worldwide will be reviewed. 3-4 p.m. Aug. 27.

• Searching the Biological Literature: BIOSIS Previews and PubMed Databases—This class covers the general databases, BIOSIS Previews and PubMed, which are especially important for the molecular and cellular sciences. 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 3.

• Searching the Ecological/Environmental Sciences Literature and GIS Data—This class will cover bibliographic databases and library resources on subject guides, including those on the ecology and conservation biology, environmental sciences, maps and GIS, marine biology, and toxicology. 3:30-5 p.m. Aug. 19.

• Searching the Agricultural Literature: Using the New OvidSP System—Learn how to search efficiently in the new OvidSP version of the three core agricultural databases, CAB Abstracts, Agricola, and Food Sciences and Technology Abstracts. The unique scope and content of each database will be reviewed. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 11.

• EndNote for the Biological and Agricultural Sciences—Learn to format bibliographies easily and automatically using EndNote, a bibliographic management tool. Discover how to download and export citations from catalogs and selected biological and agricultural databases. 3:10-4:30 p.m. Aug. 20 and Sept. 10.
