LETTER: Faculty: Outside work

Dear Editor:
As the furlough program takes on a final form, attention should be paid to modifying temporarily—or possibly suspending—some of the regulations concerning outside work (such as consulting), outside compensation and conflict-of-interest.
Faculty should not be prevented from using furlough days to generate income that can compensate for lost pay. I hope the procedures for dealing with this issue will be in place before the furloughs kick in Sept. 1.
