The UC Davis Extension course, Lab Leadership and Management, is going online for the first time. And, as with most extension offerings, UC Davis staff and academics are eligible for a 20 percent discount, up to $200 per course.
Lab Leadership and Management is essential for anyone who faces the challenges of managing a large, multidisciplinary team of scientists in a laboratory setting, according to the course description on the UC Davis Extension website.
Topics include: your role as manager and leader; your laboratory and staff; your clients, customers and sponsors; your product or deliverable; and other responsibilities in lab stewardship.
“Explore the subject matter that matters to you in a convenient online format,” UC Davis Extension officials said in a news release.
The instructors are listed as Nanny Bosch, principal chemist and operations manager for Laboratory Data Consultants Inc.; and Michael Bosch, consulting geoscientist with a multidisciplinary background that spans 18 years.
Enrollment is open through Oct. 25, with people required to complete the course by Nov. 22. Passwords will be issued starting Oct. 11.
Technical requirements: a multimedia-capable computer and Internet access (with an e-mail account).
For UC Davis staff and academics, the fee — minus the discount —is $716 if payment is postmarked by Sept. 27, or $796 after that. Payment can be made by recharge to a UC account; please provide full information for the account to be charged, including campus or lab name.
Fees for the general public are $895 if payment is postmarked by Sept. 27, or $995 after that.
The course number is 102ENE500. Enrollment can be arranged online. More information is available by telephone, (800) 752-0881, or e-mail, extension@ucdavis.edu.
