Key UC Davis leadership positions to be filled

Three major campus leadership recruitments are under way for the positions of provost and executive vice chancellor, dean of the School of Law, and dean of the division of Social Sciences. The university has set up recruitment advisory committees for all three positions, and welcomes nominations and applications from the campus community and beyond.

The position announcements and list of committee members are available at http://chancellor.ucdavis.edu/resource/recruit/recruit.cfm.

Provost and executive vice chancellor

The provost and executive vice chancellor position is the chief academic officer of the campus and responsible for the campus budget of more than $2.3 billion. The job description includes duties in the overall management of campus administration with an emphasis on day-to-day operations, policy development, health sciences administration and physical planning.

The review of applications begins in November with an anticipated starting date of July 1, 2008. The vacancy was created this year when former provost and executive vice chancellor Virginia Hinshaw accepted the position of chancellor of the University of Hawaii's Manoa flagship campus.

"We seek candidates of the highest caliber whose leadership ability and commitment to excellence will contribute significantly to our campus," wrote Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef in a memo to deans, directors, department chairs and administrative officers.

Applications and nominations can be sent to Vanderhoef at lnvanderhoef@ucdavis.edu.

Deans for social sciences, law

The dean of the Division of Social Sciences and the dean of the School of Law are the chief academic and administrative officer of those units with leadership responsibilities in resource management, faculty and staff, physical facilities and the budget. The starting dates for each position are in summer 2008.

Both vacancies were created when the current social sciences dean Steven M. Sheffrin and law school dean Rex Perschbacher announced in June 2007 that they would step down next summer.

Nominations and applications for both posts can be sent to Vanderhoef at lnvanderhoef@ucdavis.edu.

For all of the positions, once a short list of finalists is identified, the candidates will participate in two-day formal interviews that will give people an opportunity to meet and interact with the candidates.
