INTERNATIONAL INTEREST

This weekend, for the second week in a row, the Chile Cultural Association of Davis, or ChileCAD, presents a fundraiser for Chilean earthquake relief.

A family barbecue and musical afternoon took place last weekend. For the next fundraiser, ChileCAD plans Café Concert, starting at 5 p.m. March 14 at International House, 10 College Park, Davis. The suggested donation is $20 per person.

ChileCAD also announced that donations can be made to the Chile-CAD account at First Northern Bank, 434 Second St., Davis.

Davis’ International House is inviting members and friends to the organization’s annual auction, March 20. Organizers said the evening event promises “good food, good fellowship and bargains from around the world.”

“This is an important fundraiser for I-House,” said Elisabeth Sherwin, executive director. “But it also is an evening for the I-House extended family to join together for a party.”

The event is set to take place at I-House, 10 College Park, with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m., buffet dinner at 6 p.m. and the live auction beginning at 7.

According to Sherwin, at least three artists are donating work to the live auction: photographer Ray Borton, printmaker Jeffrey Granett and collage specialist Hannah Hunter. In addition, Sherwin said, the Connections group may donate a quilt or two, and weaver Verena Borton has contributed a rich blanket in deep pinks and blues.

There will be no silent auction, Sherwin said,

She said the auctioneers, I-House President Sean Duggan and former Davis Mayor Maynard Skinner will keep the auction moving quickly. Cash and checks are welcome, but not credit cards.

Organizers said Liz Young (of the Tea List in Davis), who makes up half of the I-House caretaking crew, will prepare several casseroles for the buffet, to be complemented by rolls and butter from Sodexo, fresh salad from the Davis Food Co-op and desserts made by I-House docents.

Sherwin said last year’s auction event brought in about $6,000. “We would dearly love to raise that much and more this year to continue our programs and language classes, potlucks and presentations,” she said.

Tickets: $20 before March 15, or $25 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the I-House, 10 College Park, between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. For more information, call the I-House, (530) 753-5007.
