Fire Capt. Davis Stiles, right, and firefighters Nicole Vlahos, center, and Gina Updegraff, were honored Dec. 7 at the American Red Cross Heroes Luncheon on campus. The Red Cross's Yolo County Chapter recognized 20 people, including eight UC Davis employees — veterinarian John Madigan, for his work with area ranchers and their sheep following the Sept. 22 wildfires, and Greg Hoeger, a fire marshal, for giving CPR to a woman in distress at a Berkeley restaurant. Shannon Riggs, Janelle Wierenga and Jennifer Boyle of the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital were honored along with Stiles, Vlahos and Updegraff for performing CPR and saving the life of a man visiting the veterinary hospital in February 2006.
