Guides for Campus/Industry Collaboration

UC Davis InnovationAccess, a unit of the Office of Research, recently launched a pair of Web guides to help campus researchers and industry form relationships with each other. The campus has also established a database on inventions that are available for commercial licensing and development.

One guide is for campus researchers and the other is for industry. The guides set out the principles and regulations governing industry-university partnerships, with information on technology transfer and establishing corporate affiliate programs.

The researchers' guide covers such topics as starting a business and consulting for industry. The industry guide covers such topics as innovation opportunities and access to faculty.

Information about university inventions that are available for commercial licensing and development is also available through the Web. The database includes non-confidential descriptions, inventor information and worldwide patent status about inventions ranging from wastewater treatment systems to new cancer detection methods to aerospace engineering. Updates are available via RSS feed.

The Web guides are the product of a grant awarded to Alan Bennett, associate vice chancellor for research responsible for the InnovationAccess unit, by the UC Industry-University Cooperative Research Program.

The Web address for the guides is www.research.ucdavis.edu/iuc. Questions should be directed to InnovationAccess@ucdavis.edu. The inventions database is available at innovationaccess.ucdavis.edu/.
