Grass Fire Extinguished

A grass fire that began about 10:45 a.m. today and was pushed by high winds south along Highway 113 on the western side of the UC Davis campus was extinguished about 2 p.m.

There were no campus injuries, and campus damage known at this time is limited to a fence and a couple windows in a residence hall.

The fire, which burned the highway's center median and its embankments on both sides, came near Castilian Hall, north of Russell Boulevard and currently vacant. The fence to the west of the hall burned and a few hall windows were broken by the heat of the fire.
