Aggie Surplus, in conjunction with the space management unit of Design and Construction Management, is offering free furniture to departments over three days next week — desks, chairs, cabinets and tables, all for university use only.

“If you need furniture to start the new year, this is the event for you,” Aggie Surplus declares on its website. Furniture will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis, with no limit on what anyone can take. “We encourage you to stop by early for best selection,” the organizers said.

GENERAL INVENTORY LIST

• Surplus furniture in good to fair condition
• Desks, desks and more desks
• Lots of guest and conference room chairs, rolling chairs
• Some task (desk) chairs and soft seating (lounge chairs)
• Storage cabinets, file cabinets
• Large variety of tables, including folding tables

Only university employees may attend — you will be asked to sign in and show your employee ID or badge upon entry. Campus COVID-19 protocols will be followed: face covering and Daily Symptom Survey required.

The furniture you take must be used on campus or, if you work remotely, at home. Note these guidelines for the latter:

“If there is a need for furniture for home office use, the request should go through your department business office for review and approval before the furniture is taken off-site to a home office. The furniture at the event is for business use, so only appropriate business use will be allowable for home use. The Remote Use of University Resources form is required to be completed and signed for all university supplies and equipment, including furniture, being used off-site.”

The furniture giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday (Dec. 14-16) in the University Extension Building off Research Park Drive in Davis (the building formerly occupied by UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education, previously known as University Extension). Paid parking is available in several parking lots near the University Extension Building.

If you find something you want, you will have to make your own arrangements to remove it — the organizers advised they will not have anyone available to assist with loading. However, flat carts and furniture dollies will be available for use. Also, items will not be held: “Please be prepared to take them with you.”
