The university switched on its newest fountain just in time for the chancellor's convocation, which took place across the street at Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The fountain's "curtain" of water is meant to complement the performing arts center. From left, Mary Burke, UC Davis Arboretum curator; Kathleen Socolofsky, arboretum director; and Skip Mezger, the campus's landscape architect. Funding for the fountain came from the Center for the Arts Campaign, which led to Mondavi Center's construction. In return for her donation, Professor Emerita Mary Ann Morris was given a naming opportunity — and she chose to have her family name attached to the fountain. Its official name, the Morris Fountain, refers to Professor Morris' parents and aunt.
