The Mondavi Center's spring quarter Focus on Film continues May 12 with Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory, the second of three movies in a series titled "Perspectives on War in Cinema."

Kirk Douglas stars in 1957's Paths of Glory, described as a film that emphasizes the gap between those who take orders and fight the wars in muddy trenches, and those who give the orders and are isolated from the real ravages of war.

American studies professor Eric Smoodin is scheduled to give a prescreening talk titled "Kubrick's Paths of Glory: History, Influence and the First World War on Film." Smoodin's talk is set for 6:30 p.m., with the film to play at 7, both in the Studio Theatre.

The series is set to conclude May 19 with Clint Eastwood's Letters From Iwo Jima (2006). Instead of a prescreening talk, the Mondavi Center announced the presentation of a 22-minute documentary, Pilgrimage, by Tadashi H. Nakamura. The 2006 film is described as “the inspiring story of how an abandoned WWII concentration camp has been transformed into a current-day symbol of restrospection and solidarity in the aftermath of 9-11.”

Pilgrimage is scheduled to be shown at 6:30 p.m., followed by Letters From Iwo Jima at 7, both in the Studio Theatre.
