May 19, Wednesday -- “Hiplife” music, a new genre spawned by hip-hop’s fusion with Ghana’s highlife pop music sound, will be explored in the film “Home Grown: Hiplife in Ghana” by Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi. Part of a celebration of Black Family Week, the film will start at 7 p.m. in Wellman 2 at UC Davis.

The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Jacobs-Fantauzzi and a talk by Halifu Osumare, an associate professor in the African American and African Studies Program.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the African American Studies Research Cluster of the Davis Humanities Institute, the Office of Campus Community Relations and the Ethnic & Cultural Affairs Commission of the Associated Students of UC Davis.
