IN THE FIELD ...

Kara Schmelzer, right, guides fellow doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars in the new certificate program in business development on a tour Monday of the mass spectrophotometric lab of entomologist Bruce Hammock. The tours are part of the new program in which science students and postdocs will work with MBA students in the Graduate School of Management to develop business plans for bringing UC Davis research to market. This Superfund basic research lab, which houses equipment to identify trace levels of compounds found in people and the environment, provides analytical support for about 40 UC Davis scientists. Left to right are Samara Freeman, Jeff Norris, Melanie Funes, Jonathan Weinert, Joel Koshy, and Associate Professor Andrew Hargadon of the management school.
