Fee increases spur protest in Mrak Hall lobby

A protest over new student fee increases took place Thursday (Nov. 18) in the lobby of Mrak Hall.

Fifty to 60 protesters gathered in the lobby at about 4 p.m., after a rally on the Quad. The lobby protest ended peacefully at about 7 p.m.

The protesters discussed a list of demands with Vice Chancellor Fred Wood, in charge of Student Affairs. The demands included rejection of the fee increase approved that same day by the UC Board of Regents, full funding for the library at the Women's Resources and Research Center, and scholarships for students attending UC Davis under Assembly Bill 540, under which students who meet certain criteria can pay in-state tuition rates to attend UC.
