Farmers market returns to university

The East Quad Farmers Market is back for the fall quarter, offering a shopping alternative for faculty, staff and students. The market is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Wednesday through Nov. 19. The market takes off winter quarter, then returns in the spring.

Organizers with Health Education and Promotion, a unit of Student Health Services, said the market is especially targeted at students, so they can buy the fresh produce that will allow them to follow the federal government's Food Pyramid suggestions -- three to five servings of vegetables and two to four servings of fruit per day. In fact, a 2007 survey found that 60 percent of UC Davis students were eating two or fewer servings of nutrition-packed fruits and vegetables a day.
