The Fall Welcome Committee is urging departments and units and student organizations to register their welcome events so that they can be part of Fall Welcome’s online calendar.

The committee “is stepping up efforts this year to advertise the Fall Welcome Web page as a portal for all new students as their first stop to find out about all welcome events happening on campus,” said Fall Welcome Committee Chair Richard Ronquillo said in an e-mail.

“The Fall Welcome Committee aims to provide opportunities for all students (new and current) to engage in the campus community and participate in the historical traditions of our university,” said Ronquillo, assistant director of Student Housing.

Fall Welcome is scheduled from Sept. 18 to Oct. 9, and Fall Welcome Week from Sept. 18 to 26.

Major events include the Fall Convocation, Sept. 22 and The BUZZ, Sept. 24. Ronquillo provided two examples of other Fall Welcome events for which information has already been submitted for the online calendar:

Cross Cultural Center Open House — Noon-1:30 p.m. Sept. 22. The listing states: “Find out more about this safe space for students to network and organize around issues of intersections of identities and social justice. The Cross Cultural Center aims to empower the voice of marginalized and underrepresented communities on campus to find their voice and realize their leadership potential.” With entertainment and snacks!

College of Engineering Ice Cream Social — Sponsored by the dean’s office, 2:30-4 p.m. Sept. 30, courtyard, Kemper Hall. Billed as an opportunity to learn about engineering design competitions and student clubs. Also, faculty and staff are due to be on hand to answer questions.

In providing the Fall Welcome Web page address to all incoming students, the committee intends to promote the site as “their one-stop resource to find out what events are happening on campus before Oct. 9,” Ronquillo said.

Departments are asked to register their welcome events for the calendar by Aug. 1. The calendar is due to go online on Aug. 10.

“We strongly encourage all campus departments to register all of their welcome events so that the Fall Welcome calendar will be a true reflection of the diversity of events that occur every year,” Ronquillo said.
