Excluding California's Noncitizens From the Political Process

March 8, Monday -- The public is invited to hear three scholars concerned with civil rights talk about voting rights and California's noncitizens at an event sponsored by the UC Davis Pacific Regional Humanities Center. On the panel will be UCLA law professor Joaquin Avila, a prominent litigator who has argued successfully before the U.S. Supreme Court and served as president of the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund. Accompanying him will be UC Davis law and Chicana/o studies professor Kevin Johnson, a specialist in immigration and civil rights law. He is vice president/director of Legal Services of Northern California. The third panel member will be Adela de la Torre, chair of Chicana/o studies and an economist who looks at health care, education and immigration issues. The talk will take place noon-1 p.m. in the Moot Court Room, School of Law, UC Davis.
