UC Davis Health has partnered with Elica Health and its “health on wheels” initiative to bring practitioners in mobile clinics to patients who may not otherwise receive care due to transportation and other barriers. The partnership also offers opportunities for students and residents to gain experience providing care to those who need it the most.
The first volunteer was Andy Thompson, a UC Davis registered nurse and family nurse practitioner student at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Thompson and his preceptor, Terry Zahniser, a family nurse practitioner and the mobile medicine lead provider for Elica, delivered primary care services at homeless shelters and schools in the Sacramento region over the course of a month. Thompson described the experience as “life changing.” Learn more about the initiative in the above video and this news article.
