The artist in residence at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts is honoring another artist. Pianist Lara Downes this month released For Lenny, an album marking the centennial year of the late composer Leonard Bernstein's birth, featuring her and other musicians.
As one of UC Davis' Innovators of the Year last year, she received a $10,000 prize that she said "was very supportive to my research and preparation for this project.”
Hear her discuss the album in the above video and on this clip from Capital Public Radio's Insight.
If you'd like to hear more Bernstein, the Department of Music is presenting the Oscar-winning West Side Story on campus this Friday night (March 2).
