"Dirty Laundry," a one-woman play about a neighborhood laundromat where women gather not only to do their laundry, but to discuss their personal travails, will be presented at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, in Freeborn Hall at the University of California, Davis.
The play was written and is performed by h. Teirrah McNair, who portrays all of the characters. She based the production on her experiences in the East Palo Alto community where she lives.
In almost 20 years of working in theater, McNair has written and directed more than 20 original pieces for adults and children. "Dirty Laundry," her newest work, is touring the United States, Europe and the Caribbean in 1992.
McNair has written, performed, taught and directed in Bay Area theater for the past 15 years. She portrayed "Mama" in the Eureka and Lorraine Hansberry production of "The Colored Museum." After serving as understudy to Whoopi Goldberg in "MOMS," she created another solo work, "Late Nite with Moms."
Tickets are $3 for UC Davis students and $6 for general admission, and may be purchased at the Campus Box Office and BASS ticket outlets. The presentation is sponsored by UC Davis' African American Family Week, the Women's Resources and Research Center and the Associated Students of UC Davis Entertainment Council. Accommodations can be made for people with disabilities.
