Deadline Nears for Comments on Wastewater-Plant Project

The deadline is Monday, June 28, for public comment on the tiered initial study for a proposed expansion of the campus' wastewater treatment plant.

The plant expansion would accommodate projected campus demands for wastewater treatment through 2013, increasing treatment capacity from 2.5 million gallons per day to 3.6 million. It also would improve UC Davis' ability to meet current and future regulatory requirements.

The tiered initial study analyzes the potential environmental effects of the proposed expansion.

Comments received on the study will be used in the preparation of a future environmental impact report. The potential impact areas of the proposed project's operation and its construction include: increased emissions of certain air pollutants; impacts on certain plant and animal species of concern and their habitats; water quality impacts on surface water and groundwater resources; hydrologic impacts (such as erosion and flooding); and possible discharges of treated wastewater that exceed regulatory limits.

Copies of the entire tiered initial study are available at: the UC Davis Office of Resource Management and Planning in 376 Mrak Hall on campus; the Shields Library Reserves Desk; the Yolo County Library, 315 E. 14th St., Davis; the Vacaville Public Library, 1020 Ulatis Drive, Vacaville; and on the Web at http://www.ormp.ucdavis.edu/environreview/.

Comments must be received by 5 p.m. on June 28, 2004, and can be e-mailed to environreview@ucdavis.edu or faxed to (530) 752-5808.
