Davis Gatherings to Help Neighbors Meet

Oct. 5, Sunday -- Block parties will be held all over Davis from noon to 9 p.m. during the annual Davis Neighbors' Night Out. This informal event, organized by the City of Davis, the Associated Students of UC Davis and the university, encourages neighbors to gather and get to know each other through activities like potluck dinners, barbecues, cookie exchanges and ice cream socials. The event began in 2006 with 60 parties; last year there were 80, and this year's goal is to include 100 parties to celebrate UC Davis' centennial. City and university officials, student government representatives, police officers and firefighters are expected to join the neighborhood gatherings.
