The South Entry Parking Structure south of the Mondavi Center will be closed the morning and afternoon of Sept. 28, the day that UC Davis hosts the first debate between California gubernatorial candidates Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman in the Mondavi Center's Jackson Hall.

In addition, Mrak Hall Drive (which runs from the parking structure to Mrak Hall) and Alumni Lane (which runs along the north and east sides of Vanderhoef Plaza) will be closed to vehicle traffic from about 4 p.m. through midnight that day. (Drivers parked in the metered spots along Mrak Hall Drive and in Parking Lot 3 adjacent to the law school will be able to leave campus after 4 p.m.)

The closures are necessary to accommodate the debate, which is expected to attract a crowd of more than 100 media representatives and more than a dozen TV satellite trucks.

Students, faculty and staff who normally park in the South Entry Parking Structure will be able to park in lots 1 and 2, located immediately south of the parking structure, on Sept. 28.

However, to avoid late-afternoon traffic delays associated with the debate, you may want to leave your car at home that day. Information about alternative transportation options is available at http://goclub.ucdavis.edu.

The debate will be aired live on KCRA Channel 3 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will also be broadcast live by Capital Public Radio and streamed live on the Web at http://debate.ucdavis.edu/webcast.html, as well as on the websites of The Sacramento Bee, KCRA and Capital Public Radio.
