Convocation looks to next 100 years

All members of the campus community are invited to attend the annual Fall Convocation. This year’s event will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

This year’s theme is “UC Davis’ Sustainable and Transformative Second Century.” New Chancellor Linda Katehi will be joined at the podium by UC Davis Academic Senate Chair Robert Powell, who will offer a welcome on behalf of the faculty, and Clare Hasler, executive director of the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science.

Kevin Johnson, dean of the UC Davis School of Law, will serve as master of ceremonies, and both the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra and UC Davis Chorus will perform.

Immediately after the program, a reception — including an appearance by the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh — will be held at the Mondavi Center’s Corin Courtyard and Sconyers Plaza for everyone in attendance.

Staff release time for this annual campuswide gathering is appropriate with supervisory approval.

“I do hope you’ll be able to attend,” Katehi said in a written statement to the campus community. “I’ll look forward to meeting you at the reception that follows and to starting this new year — my first as chancellor — together.”

For those who cannot attend, a live webcast of the Fall Convocation can be viewed on the campus’s home page — www.ucdavis.edu.
