What: To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, an international conference is being held at UC Davis to examine the war's historical, political, ecological and cultural legacies. Along with the conference, related activities include a symposium on memorials and remembrances, art exhibit, weekly film series and book exhibit.
The conference features internationally and nationally known speakers including activist Daniel Ellsberg, Father Daniel Berrigan, journalist Robert Scheer, author and journalist Nguyen Qui Duc, and Vietnam War veteran Jan Scruggs. Writers who will read from their works include Tim O'Brien, Larry Heinemann, Bruce Weigl, Ly Lan and Nguyen Duy; Maxine Hong Kingston will moderate the readings.
Prior to the conference, a symposium on memorials and remembrance will be held, focusing on the California Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and the Moving Wall, a half-size replica of the Washington, D.C. memorial that will be displayed in Davis' Central Park from April 23-29.
