Leon Fleisher is back to playing the piano with both hands -- and he is due at UC Davis next week for a concert and a master class.

He achieved worldwide acclaim in the 1950s and '60s, then lost the use of his right hand due to focal dystonia, a neurological condition affecting a muscle or muscles. He performed left-handed compositions until recently when new therapies allowed him to use use his right hand again.

His concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. Feb. 29 in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

On March 1, the public is invited to observe as he comments on performances of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major (Emperor) by four student pianists, two student conductors and the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, with D. Kern Holoman conducting. The class is set to start at 10 a.m. in Jackson Hall, and admission is free.
