Public comments will soon be due for the draft environmental impact report on the University of California, Davis, draft 2003 Draft Long Range Development Plan.

Comments on the draft report must be submitted before 5 p.m. Thursday, July 3, to John Meyer, vice chancellor, Resource Management and Planning, University of California, One Shields Ave., Davis, Calif. 95616 or e-mailed to lrdpdrafteir@ucdavis.edu. The draft report, which analyzes the potential environmental impacts associated with the campus's Long Range Development Plan, has been available since May for a 60-day public and agency review.

All comments received by July 3 on the Draft Environmental Impact Report will be considered by campus planners and presented and addressed in the final environmental impact report.

The 2003 Long Range Development Plan is a comprehensive planning document that addresses the general types and locations of campus development to accommodate new students, faculty, staff and facilities through the 2015-16 academic year.

In addition to the plan, the environmental impact report evaluates five proposed initial projects, including:

  • the Neighborhood Master Plan, which would establish a neighborhood for students, faculty and staff west of State Route 113 and south of Russell Boulevard;
  • the Research Park Master Plan, which would develop a research park west of Old Davis Road and north and south of Interstate 80 for partnerships between UC Davis and private, public and nonprofit organizations;
  • a multi-use stadium complex, which would include an 18,000-seat outdoor stadium facility southwest of the Hutchison Drive and La Rue Road intersection;
  • the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, which would provide teaching and research facilities for the Viticulture and Enology and Food Science and Technology departments; and
  • a chilled water facility expansion, which would enlarge the campus's chilled water system to adequately serve existing and future cooling needs.

The draft environmental impact report, the Draft 2003 Long Range Development Plan, the draft Neighborhood Master Plan and the draft Research Park Master Plan are all available for review online at http://www.ormp.ucddavis.edu/environreview/2003lrdp.html.
