Baaba Maal — Charismatic singer from Senegal, equally at home with an acoustic guitar playing traditional folk music or with a large ensemble playing the hottest international dance music. 8 p.m. April 15, Jackson Hall.

UC Berkeley Gamelan Sari Raras — Using century-old Javanese instruments, the gamelan will accompany a shadow play (wayang kulit), with Midiyanto, the gamelan’s co-director, as shadow master, casting shadows on a screen. 7 p.m. April 16, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre.

Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra — Program: Rouse’s Rapture, Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, Sibelius’ Symphony No. 7 and Adams’ Dr. Atomic Symphony. 8 p.m. April 16, Jackson Hall. Empyrean Ensemble: Program III — UC Davis’ ensemble in residence, featuring artist-in-residence Haleh Abghari, soprano. Program: Eric Moe’s Jozaphine Freedom for soprano, clarinet, percussion and piano-keyboard, with video created by Suzie Silver; Philippe Bodin’s La Femme Adultère for string quartet and percussion; and Jesper Nordin’s In the Midst of Trespassing for violin, percussion and electronics. 7 p.m. April 18, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre.
