Johnny Shao Tien pleaded not guilty to three charges related to thestabbing of a UC Davis sophomore when he was arraigned in Yolo County Superior Court in Woodland Tuesday.
A preliminary hearing was set for 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 5, in Department 9 of the same court.
Tien is charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon and the infliction of great bodily injury during domestic violence, aggravated mayhem with a deadly weapon and the infliction of great bodily injury during domestic violence, and the infliction of corporal injury on a former cohabitant with a deadly weapon.
Tien was arrested at his Rowland Heights home in Los Angeles County early Saturday after a UC Davis student was stabbed Friday morning in her campus apartment. He is an acquaintance of the victim and had taken a Summer Sessions II course at UC Davis in 1999.
The 20-year-old victim, whose name is being withheld due to the nature of the attack, was treated at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento over the weekend and released. She has a punctured lung and stab wounds to the chest, back and shoulder area but is expected to make a full recovery.
Tien first appeared in Yolo County Superior Court Monday, but his arraignment was continued Tuesday because he had told the court he had not yet talked to the Pasadena lawyer hired by his family.
