Centennial celebration at Student Housing HQ

Student Housing next week joins in the UC Davis Centennial celebration by holding an open house to celebrate 100 years of campus housing.

The open house is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 4 in the Student Housing Administration Building. Organizers said light refreshments will be served, and centennial magnets will be given out.

The event will include a photo display and presentation on student housing through the years. The first dormitory, North Hall, was built in 1908, and South Hall was built three years later. Both now house student services. A Student Housing timeline — past, present and future — is posted online.

Today, Student Housing comprises 22 residence halls, with accommodations for about 4,500 students. The newest buildings, Kearney and Laben halls, also known as Tercero South, opened in 2005.

In addition to 100 years of campus housing, Student Housing is celebrating 30 years in its administration building, on the east side parking Lot 25, east of the Activities and Recreation Center.
