Campus Community Advised to Be Vigilant

Recently, the Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI arrested a suspect in Florida who has been accused of mailing explosive devices to individuals across the United States. The FBI informed us that the suspect had researched UC Davis. We’ve learned that the UC Berkeley Library was also researched by the suspect, in addition to other institutions across the United States.

We have no reason to believe that any explosives have been sent to the University, but the UC Davis Police Department reminds the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or packages without delay.

Staff at the Bulk Mail Facility receive quarterly training, and, out of an abundance of caution, they received additional expert training regarding handling of suspicious packages. We are doing everything we can to make sure our community is safe.

For guidance on how to identify suspicious packages, please download this helpful tip sheet from the FBI.

To report any suspicious packages discovered on campus or other related concerns, please contact the UC Davis Police Department:

  • 530-752-1727 (24-hour, non-emergency)
  • IN AN EMERGENCY OR TO REPORT AN IN-PROGRESS CRIME, DIAL 911.
