UC provost selected

The UC Board of Regents on June 2 appointed Wyatt "Rory" Hume as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, the second highest post in the UC system. He oversees academic planning, research, health and academic policies for the 10-campus UC system. Hume had been UC's executive vice provost and vice president for academic and health affairs, and had served as interim provost of the UC system since 2005 when Provost M.R.C. Greenwood resigned. Hume's annual salary will be $362,500.

At the same meeting, the regents appointed Marie Berggren as new chief investment officer and vice president for investments. Berggren replaces David Russ, who stepped down in July 2005. In addition to her appointment as chief investment officer and vice president for investments, Berggren will continue to serve as acting UC treasurer, a post she has held since Russ's departure. She will earn $375,000.

Also, the regents approved the hiring of Jeffrey Blair as acting general counsel of the regents and acting vice president for legal affairs in the Office of the President. He will replace James Holst, who leaves the UC this month. Blair will oversee the UC Office of General Counsel until a permanent replacement for Holst is found. Blair will receive a salary of $216,700.
