Military pay policy extended
The UC Office of the President announced another extension of the university’s policy on supplemental pay for employees who take military leave for the purpose of serving in the U.S. war on terror.
The policy had been due to expire on June 30; the expiration date is now June 30, 2012.
Under the policy, UC makes up the difference in pay for employees who earn less in the military than they do at the university. In addition, UC continues to pay the employer’s share health plan premiums for employees who are called to active duty.
For any employee who is called to active duty or who enlists, and who does not receive supplemental pay, the university continues to pay its share of costs for the employee’s health plan premiums, provided the employee pays his or her share as well.
UC’s supplemental pay and benefits coverage is subject to a two-year lifetime limit, retroactive to Dec. 14, 2001, the date the policy took effect. Three months earlier, on Sept. 11, terrorist attacks in commandeered jetliners killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center in New York City, at the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and in a Pennsylvania field.

Gunrock Pub closed for at least 6 weeks
The Gunrock Pub closed down July 1 for a drain renovation project that is expected to take at least six weeks, according to campus food service provider Sodexo.
The closure has forced the cancellation of this summer's Wednesday Night Wine Flights, which had been scheduled for July 7, Aug. 4 and Sept. 1. The first-Wednesday-of-the-month wine tastings, sponsored by the pub and the Cal Aggie Alumni Association's Vintage Aggies Wine Club, are due to start up again in October.
Making lists the Sympa way
The campus's transition from Listproc to Sympa software, for e-mail list management, is under way:
Effective June 22, all new e-mail lists are being created with Sympa, and, on July 19, the campus will begin automatically migrating campus e-mail lists and archives from Listproc to Sympa.
Faculty, students and staff have used Listproc to manage more than 12,000 mailing lists, but Listproc no longer meets campus standards.
Information and Educational Technology is offering free basic training classes in Sympa; the next class is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. July 28 in the Mee Room, Memorial Union. Admission is free, but people who plan to attend are asked to send RSVPs to ietrsvp@ucdavis.edu.
Summer hours at the MU bookstore
Summer hours are in effect through Sept. 17 at the bookstore in the Memorial Union: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and noon-5 p.m. Saturday. Exceptions: closed July 3-5 for the Fourth of July holiday and Sept. 4-6 for the Labor Day holiday.
