IN BRIEF

'06-07 poster calendars

University Communications is now making available to the campus community the UC Davis 2006-07 poster calendar, previously produced in limited quantities by the Office of Admissions.

The calendars are frequently used within the campus to remind people of key dates, but they also will contain UC Davis Points of Pride and can be used with external constituents.

The calendars may be ordered by campus units in quantities of 10 or more for 75 cents each through the University Communications Web site at http://ucomm.ucdavis.edu/pub_orders. The calendars will cover the period from September 2006 to August 2007. Orders may be placed by campus units now, and delivery is expected in late August.

Blood drives scheduled

The Associated Students of UC Davis will hold blood drives from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23-24 at two locations on campus — the Quad and the ARC Ballroom. Sections will be designated for staff at both locations, so that they do not have a wait. Each donor will receive a coupon for Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

For more information, call (916) 376-6007 or e-mail angela.tarricone@bloodsource.org.

Tolerance recognized

UC Davis was recently recognized as one of the 100 best campuses for lesbian and gay students, and is included in The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students, the first comprehensive guide highlighting the 100 most LGBT-friendly campuses in the United States. UC Davis' environment, programs and services and LGBT student coalitions were the reasons given for this distinction.

The book, released Aug. 1, profiles 100 colleges and universities across the country that offer resources and create a positive living and learning environment for LGBT students. See www.campuspride.net.

New bus routes unveiled

Unitrans this week inaugurated two new bus lines and changed the letter designations of two others. The new lines are the M, replacing the W-MU, running along Fifth Street, Pole Line Road, Cowell Boulevard and Research Park Drive; and the H, serving the Health Sciences district hourly. With the new H line, the A line now terminates at Shields Library. The old D-MU line is now dubbed the K line, and the old G-Silo line is now dubbed the J line.

For Great America, in Santa Clara, UC Davis employees are eligible to buy single-day admission tickets for $29, which is a savings of up to $23.

The Staff Assembly offered discounted tickets for the California State Fair, set to run from today through Sept. 4, Labor Day. The purchase period for those tickets is now over.
