Water polo prowess

The UC Davis women's water polo team took fifth place at the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship on May 14 with a 12-10 overtime victory against Hartwick. Three Aggies tallied hat tricks in front of a home crowd at Schaal Aquatics Center. With the win, the Aggies finished with a 22-12 record, marking their ninth consecutive winning season and their eighth with 20 or more wins. Hartwick concluded its season with a 28-11 record.

UC benefits audit

The UC human resouces and benefits office has begun its annual systemwide random audit of UC employees, retirees and their family members enrolled in plan coverage. The 2006 audit, which will include approximately 20 percent of all enrolled employees and retirees with dependents in a UC-sponsored medical plans, is intended to ensure that only those dependents who are eligible for insurance coverage are enrolled. If you have ineligible family members enrolled in your plans, such as a child who is married or an ex-spouse that you forgot to de-enroll, complete an enrollment change at http://atyourservice.ucop.edu.

Humanities Institute

The UC Davis Humanities Institute will host two speaker events on Monday, May 22. Moishe Postone from the University of Chicago will deliver a talk on "Capital and History" at 4 p.m. in 2203 Social Science and Humanities Building. He will also offer a noontime seminar, "The Holocaust and the Trajectory of the 20th Century," from noon to 2 p.m. in 228 Voorhies Hall. The seminar reading is available in the Davis Humanities Institute, 227 Voorhies Hall.

Academic Federation

The Academic Federation has scheduled its annual awards ceremony for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Rec Pool Lodge to honor the recipients of the 2005-06 Excellence and Teaching Awards. They are, for teaching, Aliki Dragona, a lecturer in the University Writing Program; and Susan Keen, a lecturer in evolution and ecology; and for research, Frank Mitloehner, an air quality extension specialist.
