Brian McCurdy is shedding his overall center management responsibilities to provide more focused attention to directing the presenting program at the Robert and Magrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
Acknowledging McCurdy's considerable accomplishments in directing the presenting program, Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef said, "I couldn't be more pleased with his artistic sensibilities, particularly his understanding of the special role of a university arts presenter and his creative approaches to sustaining and expanding the center's audiences."
Starting April 18, Barbara Sellers-Young, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, will serve as interim director of the Mondavi Center while the campus initiates a national search for a new Mondavi Center director. Last fall, the chancellor changed the center's reporting relationship from University Relations to the Offices of the Chancellor and Provost to better recognize the primacy of the center's academic mission.
Vanderhoef will chair a new Mondavi Center Management Oversight Committee that will include the dean of the Division of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies, the Mondavi Center director, the Mondavi Center presenting program director, and the chairs of the departments of Theatre and Dance and of Music.
The oversight committee will make policy decisions and conduct quarterly program and financial reviews.
