Body Identified as Missing Grad Student

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office on Wednesday identified the body of a woman involved in a recent traffic accident as that of a UC Davis graduate student who had been missing for a week.

The coroner's office confirmed that Beverly "Bev" Paul, a graduate student in agriculture and environmental chemistry, was killed in the early morning of October 19, after being struck by a truck tractor on I-5 northbound, north of J Street. The California Highway Patrol reported later that day that the victim died immediately at the scene.

Ms. Paul, 26 years old, was last seen at the Sierra Vista Hospital in Sacramento on the morning of Oct. 18. She was reported missing by a UC Davis faculty advisor and had not been seen by family or friends since then. Her vehicle was found the morning of Oct. 21 at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

The UC Davis Police Department investigated Ms. Paul's disappearance with the assistance of the CHP and the coroner's office. The coroner's office and the California Department of Justice used fingerprints to identify Ms. Paul's body.

The CHP is continuing to investigate the Oct. 19 traffic accident. The CHP is requesting that anyone with information regarding the collision contact them at (916) 681-2300 or (916) 861-1300.
