Biocontainment lab proposed design rendered

WESTERN VIEW: This conceptual drawing offers a glimpse of what the proposed National Biocontainment Laboratory might look like, as viewed from the western end of the site — now home to the UC Davis Equestrian Center. The equestrian center will be relocated to Russell Ranch on Road 32, about five miles west of the main campus; shuttle service will be provided for students and employees. The proposal for the infectious-disease lab, submitted Monday to the National Institutes of Health, included a commitment from the state Department of Finance to equally share the required $50 million in matching funds with UC, should federal unding be granted to build the lab. The National Institutes of Health is expected to award funding for one or two such facilities in the fall. The campus is planning a series of spring-quarter public seminars about the proposed lab.
