The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame held its annual induction ceremony and dinner at UC Davis for the first time last year — and a few months later, in April 2009, the hall of fame decided to pack up in Somerville, N.J., and move to Davis for good.

Now it is time for the 2009 induction ceremony, and it will take place at UC Davis again, on Nov. 7 in Freeborn Hall.

And, like last year, Transportation and Parking Services is holding a drawing for free tickets to the dinner. All TAPS customers — anyone who has purchased a parking permit or a bicycle license, or anyone who belongs to the goClub —are invited to enter. All you need to do is send an e-mail with “Prize Drawing” in the subject line, to Mary Maffly at TAPS: mlmaffly@ucdavis.edu, by noon Oct. 27.

The dinner is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $120 per person, available online: conferences.ucdavis.edu/bhf.

The 2009 inductees are: Richard Cortright, Olympic competitor in 1952, 1956 and 1960; Phyllis Harmon, cycling contributor; Clayton John, BMX organizer; and Nelson Vails, the first African American to medal in bicycling in the Olympics.

Organizers said the keynote speaker will be Connie Carpenter-Phinney, who was inducted into the hall of fame in 1990. She won 12 U.S. cycling championships, more than any other woman or man; four medals at the cycling world championships in both pursuit and road race; and a gold medal in the first Olympics road race, at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.
