BARBARA JACKSON: SODERQUIST AWARD

The UC Davis Foundation on May 9 announced Barbara K. Jackson, center, as the recipient of the Charles J. Soderquist Award. She is flanked here by Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef and Meg Stallard, chair of the UC Davis Foundation board of trustees. In honoring Jackson, the foundation noted her more than 50 years of philanthropy and volunteer service on behalf of UC Davis. She serves now as a trustee emerita of the UC Davis Foundation. Jackson and her husband, W. Turrentine “Turpie” Jackson, a renowned scholar of the American West, came to Davis in 1951. Before and after Turpie’s death, the couple’s contributions to UC Davis amount to more than $6 million. The money has benefitted variety of areas, including the Symphony Orchestra, the arts presenting program, and the history and music department. They gave $5 million to establish the Barbara K. and W. Turrentine Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The Soderquist award, established by the UC Davis Foundation in 2005, honors the late Sacramento-area entrepreneur Charlie Soderquist for his many contributions to UC Davis.
