THE ARTS: Son of the Bride to close out International Film Festival

The 2009-10 International Film Festival at the I-House wraps up June 18 with Son of the Bride, an Academy Award nominee in 2002 for best foreign language film.

The Argentine film is about a workaholic restaurateur, Rafael Belvedere (Ricardo Darin), who neglects those closest to him; a health crisis that forces Rafael to deal with his past and face his future with a more mature realization of what is important in life; and the wedding of Rafael's parents — a ceremony planned as a substitute for the fancy ceremony they never had.

In addition, Rafael's mother suffers from Alzheimer's disease, a subject treated with understanding, tact and humor.

The I-House program is scheduled to begin with refreshments at 7:30 p.m.; the film starts at 8 p.m. sharp. Admission is free, with donations welcome to help cover the cost of video-DVD rental, refreshments and use of the facility.

I-House is at 10 College Park, across from Howard Way where it intersects with Russell Boulevard at the north edge of the campus. Telephone: (530) 753-5007. E-mail: office@internationalhousedavis.org.
