MUSIC AND DANCE

Symphony Orchestra — Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major. Noon-1 p.m., Jackson Hall, Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Free.

Main Stage Dance-Theatre Festival — New choreographies by undergraduate and graduate students. 1 and 3 p.m., Main Theatre, Wright Hall. $5.

Design by Design: Juried Student Design Competition — 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Design Museum, 145 Walker Hall.

18th- and 19th-Century British Satirical Posters — From the university’s Fine Arts Collection. 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Nelson Entryway Gallery, 125 Art Building.

Jared Tolla: Remnants — The Craft Center director presents small works that he has crafted from “reappropriated” bits and pieces of glass, including incorrect sizes and shapes, and leftovers from completed projects. 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Craft Center Gallery, South Silo.

Niu Pasifik: Urban Art from the Pacific Rim — Contemporary art from New Zealand and the Pacific Rim, from the collection of curator and educator Giles Peterson. 10 a.m.-3 p.m., C.N. Gorman Museum, first floor, Hart Hall. Complimentary coffee and tea.

See What I See Around UC Davis — Photographer Jerry Schimke presents a fanciful exploration of UC Davis, with diverse perspectives and subject matter. 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.

Owen Smith and Nayland Blake, one-man shows — Smith, known for his 1930s-style pulp fiction illustrations, is showing cartoon drawings on paper and in digital video format, paintings, New Yorker magazine covers and other work. Blake, who has been blogging on a near-daily basis in recent years, is presenting the first offline exhibition of his autobiographical drawings cum cartoons. His show also includes original black-and-white drawings as well as digital images, in color, on a video monitor. 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Nelson Gallery, 124 Art Building.

Youth Voices for Change — Work by Sactown Heroes, affiliated with the West Sacramento Youth Resource Coalition. The teens collaborated with UC Davis researchers and artists for six months to create poetry, photos, comics and an interactive map with videos, documenting conditions that impact their lives and expressing their hopes for the future. 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.
