THE ARTS: Lectures and a poetry reading

Dario Robleto visits UC Davis next week to give an illustrated lecture, “Some Longings Survive Death,” about the integration of sound elements into his sculptural art — in particular his work for the exhibition “Human/Nature: Artists Respond to a Changing Planet.” 12:10 p.m. April 20, University Club Lounge.

“Human/Nature: Artists Respond to a Changing Planet” is scheduled to run through Sept. 27 at the Berkeley Art Museum. According to the Web site artistsrespond.org, Robleto’s “Human/Nature” artwork centers around a series of sculptures, as well as a film (a new medium for him), that focus “on the inevitable loss of the glaciers, the mourning we collectively experience as we witness the changing of the Earth at our own hands, and the ways in which loss can inspire new ways of thinking.”

John Yau, a poet and critic whose books include A Thing Among Things: The Art of Jasper Johns, The Passionate Spectator: Essays on Art and Poetry, Paradiso and Borrowed Love Poems, gives a talk and a poetry reading during a two-day visit next week. His talk in the Art Studio Program Lecture Series is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 22 in the Technocultural Studies Building. His poetry reading is scheduled to begin at noon April 23 in 126A Voorhies Hall.
