AROUND THE UC: New staff adviser to regents

New staff adviser to regents

The UC Office of the President announced the selection of Edward Abeyta, the registrar and director of academic services at UC San Diego Extension, as staff adviser-designate to the Board of Regents for 2008-09.

He succeeds Bill Johansen, who moves up to staff adviser after a year as the designate. Johansen is senior business manager in the Life Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Johansen replaces Lynda Brewer, assistant director of Capital Planning on the Irvine campus.

The university established the staff adviser positions as a pilot program in 2005, and the Board of Regents made the positions permanent in 2007. The positions are open to staff and-or nonsenate academic employees.

Staff advisers serve in a nonvoting capacity on three regents' committees: Educational Policy, Finance and Long Range Planning.
