Federal funding for UC?

As state funds erode and student fees escalate, UC President Mark Yudof is calling for more federal support for public universities like the UC system.

In a proposal released last week, Yudof elaborated on his ideas for an “integrated national strategy” that would hike federal funding for public universities across the nation, suggesting a $2.5 billion federal investment in universities’ operations and an additional $3 billion for graduate programs.

“We can either regain the prominence and leadership role we once held and invest in our citizens and our future, or we can become accustomed to mediocrity,” he wrote.
